Freedom Song, a musical production created and performed by current or past residents of Beit T’Shuvah, the interdenominational Jewish addiction treatment program in Los Angeles, brings to life the family experience of addiction within our Jewish community. Freedom Song showcases a family celebrating Passover while also confronting the impact of substance use disorder. Interspersing scenes from a 12-Step meeting, the performance examines the impact of addiction on a Jewish family and celebrates the family’s strength to accept challenges and overcome shame and fear.
Following the performance of Freedom Song, audience members are encouraged to ask questions of the cast, who courageously and honestly share their own stories of addiction and recovery.
This evening will begin with a performance by the Helping Up Mission Choir.
Freedom Song is recommended for teens ages 13 and up, adults, and anyone interested in better understanding substance abuse and family dynamics.
