Volunteer Opportunities
- Jewish Big Brother Big Sister
Share your time and attention with a Jewish child or teen in need of mentoring. A “Big” acts as a special friend to a “Little” by offering support, guidance and by engaging in a variety of experiences together at least 2 – 3 times per month. "Littles" range in age from 7-17. A one year commitment is required. Training and support are provided.
- Mitzvah Mobility
Drive and escort older adults to medical appointments, and help community members who have limited transportation options stay healthy and independent. Weekdays, flexible times. Drive as often as you like, and be reimbursed for your mileage expenses!
- Friendly Visitor
Offer companionship to frail elderly and homebound clients, and to clients with developmental disabilities. Once a week for an hour.
- Centerpieces for Tzedakah Volunteer
Join other volunteers creating beautiful centerpieces in support of the Jewish Community Food Fund.
- Translator
Accompany Russian or Farsi speaking clients in order to translate non-medical terminology at medical appointments or to help complete paperwork at government offices.
- Prison Services
Offer fellowship and community contact to Jewish prisoners in facilities around the state, helping them to observe holidays in a meaningful way.
- Tutor
Help Russian or Farsi speaking clients improve English language skills; assist students in the Jewish community with secular and/or Judaic studies.
- Shopper Corp
Grocery shop for an older adult in our community. Obtain a shopping list and go to the supermarket, or accompany an individual to a store to help select groceries. Once a week or every other week, flexible times.
- Jewish Legal Services
Volunteer lawyers provide pro-bono legal consultation to low income Jewish community members at a once-a-month drop in clinic. Click here to read a profile of Jewish Legal Services published in the November 2009 Maryland Bar Bulletin.
JCS is also proud to announce that Jewish Legal Services Attorney, Constance Putzel, Esq., has received the 2010 Pro Bono Distinguished Service Award. Click here to read more.
