Addiction Services
Addiction is a disease that does not discriminate. Problems with alcohol and other drugs affect the young and the old, rich and poor, men and women. Like any challenge we may face, our chances for success are much better with the support of family and community.
The Addiction Services of JCS address the challenges of substance use, abuse and addiction through recovery-focused counseling, treatment and referral services, and prevention education,. We serve adolescents, adults and families.
Our Addiction Services are certified by the State of Maryland as an outpatient program, a DWI/DUI educational and treatment program, and as a referral agency of the courts.
If you, or someone you love, is suffering with addiction, we want you to know: You are not alone. We are here to help.
We provide:
| Information and Referral
JCS staff members have access to statewide (Maryland), as well as national listings of recovery programs.
When you call, one of our counselors will take a brief history and give you feedback about the type of program that may best serve your needs. These may include professional as well as self-help resources. If you are in the greater Baltimore, MD area, you may be offered a face-to-face assessment session. This session will provide a more detailed picture of your needs than the phone contact and, thus, may result in more targeted referrals. If desired, it will begin your participation in JCS’s outpatient programs.
There is no charge for the phone contact and referral information. Our regular fees are charged for any face-to-face service.

Outpatient Services
JCS offers an abstinence-based outpatient treatment program utilizing individual, group, couple and family counseling to address addiction and its impact on the family. Services begin with an assessment session, followed by assignment to a counselor. With your counselor, you will discuss which of our services may best address your needs. Many of our clients attend both individual and group counseling sessions, at least initially.
JCS recognizes that the fallout from addiction reaches far beyond the addict. It is a disease that can wreak havoc not only on a person’s body and mind - but on their family as well. Family members play an important role in motivating and supporting treatment and recovery. Often, we hear from family members: what about me? What services are there to help me cope? Our Addiction Services provides both individual counseling and group therapy to family members affected by the disease of addiction - regardless of the addict’s participation.

Prevention Programming
As part of our Prevention Education, JCS offers age appropriate education and outreach to raise community awareness about the risky behaviors associated with drug use, addiction and the spread of the HIV/AIDS. These programs offer information and experiences to help children, teens, and adults make healthy decisions regarding potentially risky behaviors for themselves and those important to them. HIV/AIDS prevention education is supported by the Steven Kaufman AIDS Outreach Project.
