The beginning of baseball season is a perfect time to reflect on last year’s playoffs when the Orioles had everyone chanting their slogan: “We Won’t Stop.” Although that winning attitude couldn’t get the O’s past the Kansas City Royals, it can sometimes help people find a job.
If the Orioles can get back to the playoffs after 14 losing seasons, you can find employment. Having a positive outlook and open mindedness can be the key to landing a job that may very well change your life. You have to be open to trying new things, thinking outside the box and exploring new options.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment went up by 295,000 in February and 3.3 million over the year. The jobs are out there. Your positive attitude, along with some persistence and hard work, could help you find what you’re looking for.
It’s important to be upbeat with not only your job search, but also with your interviewing and networking. If you believe you can land that job when you interview, that positive attitude will shine through and make you a more appealing candidate. No one wants to hire a downer.

It’s important to remember that the right attitude can also help you after you’ve landed a job. A client who secured a job after working with the JCS Career Center recently told me, “this job has changed my life. You and JCS have changed my life.” A job can change the way a person may feel or view life. This particular man is appreciative of what he has and loves what he does. Against many odds and barriers, my client was still able to land a job and is grateful for the opportunity. When his managers called JCS to thank us for connecting them with such a great job applicant, they said that he always asks how their day is and is always in a great mood. They wish more staffers were like him. Follow his lead and remember that while attitude alone can’t do it all, it can give you an advantage.
You can view obstacles and let them get you down, or you can be positive and keep the search going. Let today be the beginning of your “season” and like the Orioles, let the world know that “You Won’t Stop.”
